What happens at a Trampolining Competition?

General Warm-up
Each competitor (anywhere from 50-400) has a general warm-up where the whole category get to practise anything they need and generally warm-up. This is also an opportunity to choose which trampoline you like best if there is a choice.

Controlled Warm-up for your set routine
Each competitor will be called individually to warm-up their first routine, the set routine. The bed marshal calls your name when it is time for you to have your warm-up go. You should only do one routine, then get off. This routine is not judged.

Remember that you are responsible for finding 4 people to spot on your trampoline while you bounce. If you haven't this will hold the competition up. If you don't have 4 people available, then ask some of the other people in your category to spot for you, trampolininsts are usually very friendly, I'm sure they won't mind at all!

Compete your set routine
Usually around 5 goes later, you will be called to compete your set routine. This will be judged by the panel of judges so you must wait until the Chair of the judging panel tells you to start. If there is a delay, then just sit on the trampoline and wait for them to come over and tell you to start. You may present to the judges ifyou wish before and after your routine. Remember to stand still for 3 seconds after you finish!

Controlled Warm-up for your voluntary routine
As for your set, you will have a warm-up go for your vol. Normally, there are quite a few people competing in each category so this maybe quite a while after you competed your set routine.
You will again be called byt he bed marshal to warm-upyour voluntary routine. You should complete one routine and leave the trampoline. Again, this is not judged.

Compete your voluntary routine
Around 5 goes later, you will be told by the bed marshal to compete your voluntary routine. As for the set, you should sit and wait to be told to start by the chair of the judging panel.

Finals
Usually, if there are more than 10 competitors in your category, there will be a final for the top 10 competitors int he first round. your scores for teh first round are added up, and the top 10 will complete another voluntary routine. The finals are usually just one voluntary routine, no set routine. The format is similar to before, except that there willbe fewer people competing in the final.

How is it Judged?

A competition is judged by a panel of judges. There are 5 judges who decide how well the moved were performed (this highest and lowest scores are discounted) and there is one judge who calculates the tariff (difficulty) of the routine according to set rules. Read more about judging...

What categories are there?

Competition categories vary in local competitions, but the standard categories are graded in levels 1-7 (1 is the highest level, and 7 the lowest). Each grade is then split into agegroups which are under 9, under 11, under 13, under 15, under 17, under 19 and over 19. An example working out which age group you should be in is in the competition FAQs.
